Ae. Murray et al., PHYLOGENETIC COMPOSITIONS OF BACTERIOPLANKTON FROM 2 CALIFORNIA ESTUARIES COMPARED BY DENATURING GRADIENT GEL-ELECTROPHORESIS OF 16S-RDNA FRAGMENTS, Applied and environmental microbiology, 62(7), 1996, pp. 2676-2680
The phylogenetic compositions of bacterioplankton assemblages from San
Francisco Bay and Tomales Bay, Calif., differed substantially when an
alyzed by PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis; these differenc
es are consistent with the results of previous studies demonstrating d
ifferences in their metabolic capabilities. PCR-denaturing gradient ge
l electrophoresis analysis of complex microbial assemblages was sensit
ive and reliable, and the results were reproducible as shown by experi
ments with constructed and naturally occurring assemblages.
