Abstract
The Pt(110) surface reconstructs after the proper preparation in (1 x 2) phase. The structure is called ''missing row'' structure, because i n the surface every other [110] surface chain is not occupied. The STM analysis identifies this structure and shows also a characteristic st ep structure. The RHEED is used to study the phase transition of the s urface which occurs at 960+30 K. The transition is of the 2D Ising typ e, i.e., an order-disorder transition.
