From december 1986 to june 1994, 23 human rabies cases hospitalised at
the Infectious Diseases Department al Fann Hospital in Dakar were enr
olled in this study, For each case, an occipital cerebral aspiration p
onction were done for the virologic diagnosis of rabies, The specimen
was send at the Institut Pasteur of Dakar, The positivity rate was 95.
6 %. These results are similar to those obtained with autopsy and are
more sensitive than those with salavia inoculation or-corneal appositi
on.
