J. Dorsey et al., SURFACE-ACTIVE PROPERTIES OF POLYESTER SURFACTANTS WITH APPLICATIONS TO SEEDED EMULSION POLYMERIZATION, Polymer reaction engineering, 4(2-3), 1996, pp. 105-134
The surface active properties of polyester surfactants on latexes of v
ariable composition are reported. The method of soap titration was use
d to analyze surfactant efficiency and effectiveness. Adsorption isoth
erms were also generated for five polyesters on poly(styrene), poly(st
yrene/poly(methyl methacrylate) [1:1 weight ratio], and poly(methyl me
thacrylate) latex. The polyester composition varied in the amount of c
harged species and the structure of the glycol units. Seeded semiconti
nuous polymerizations were performed with the polyester surfactants an
d related to the adsorption behavior of the polyesters.
