Thermoluminescence (TL) and optical absorption studies on Sr2+ doped c
esium halides have been carried out. The various glow peaks due to F,
D1D2 and Z(1) centers are identified by means of TL and optical absorp
tion studies. Z(1) centers are found to be formed on irradiation itsel
f in both Sr2+ doped CsBr and CsCl crystals. The study of the dosimetr
ic properties of the TL glow peak at 403 K for irradiation indicated t
hat the CsBr:Sr2+ phosphor satisfies the most basic need of an efficie
nt TLD material, It is proposed that the CsBr:Sr2+ phosphor material c
an be used in dosimetry for the range 10(0)-10(3) R.
