Dm. Cino et G. Valdes, SIMULATION OF THE ECONOMICAL FEASIBILITY OF THE UTILIZATION OF THE VOISIN GRAZING SYSTEM IN BEEF FATTENING, Cuban journal of agricultural science, 29(2), 1995, pp. 145-151
The simulation of the economical possibilities of the application of t
he rational Voisin grazing system (RVG) in beef cattle wen evaluated.
Two possible variants were employed in an integral farm design with an
d without protein banks (Leucaena leucocephala) with 500 animals and t
hree live weight gains: 350, 450 and 550 g/animal/day and 300, 400 and
500 g/animal/day, respectively with molasses/urea at 3 and 7% (varian
ts a and b, respectively). A fattening stage under commercial conditio
ns (conventional grazing) was also economically analysed in the Rene F
raga enterprise in Las Tunas province. The cost, production value and
profit for each of the variants were calculated and regressions betwee
n profit gains (Y) and live weight gains per hectare and per year (x)
wee also evaluated. All the alternatives under RVG showed economic pro
fits per hectare, however, the highest live weight gains (450 and 550)
offend better rate increases/ha. Square adjustments were found (r(2)
= 0.80 and 0.94 for RVG with and without protein bank, respectively an
d this analysis indicates that the production limit when there is no p
rofitability is between 170 and 205 g/animal/day. The utilization of p
rotein banks showed a gain increase of 14% and it was observed that wi
th gains over 450 g/animal/day investments can be recovered in 8 years
