Abstract
The occurrence of Sporolithon ptychoides in the Mediterranean Sea is f irst reported. Comparisons with S. mediterraneum and S. molle, the onl y two other species of the genus reported from the Mediterranean Sea, have shown that the former is likely to be conspecific of S. ptychoide s, while the latter has not been verified to occur in that Sea.
