Abstract
The question of ''rehab readiness'' for intensive, acute rehabilitatio n is a difficult one to answer for the patient who is minimally consci ous. By using a quantitative evaluation, based on the principles of si ngle subject design and methodology, the authors suggest a more defini tive assessment method that can provide the treatment team, family, an d insurer with direction for treatment planning. Using a case presenta tion format, clinical and insurer issues are highlighted, The authors propose a three-step plan for determining whether a minimally consciou s patient is a rehabilitation candidate.
