Abstract
The possible role of ion beam techniques in the study of proteins is d iscussed with special emphasis on particle induced X-ray emission (PIX E) spectrometry. Instead of routine bulk analysis of protein containin g samples, where several competing analytical techniques are available , the full strength of PIXE can be exploited in special applications w here the direct ion beam technique is combined with proper biochemical separation techniques.
