By ramping the energy of the electron beam on a microsecond timescale,
a frequency chirp on a picosecond timescale has been induced. The res
ults of such an experiment are discussed as well as the results of an
external pulse chirping experiment. Furthermore, the output of FELIX u
nder normal operating conditions is investigated. For the first time a
detailed series of measurements of the evolution of the optical micro
pulse into a train of subpulses is made when FELIX operates in the lim
it-cycle mode.
