Abstract
Single crystals of Na3Cd2IrO6 have been prepared by crystallization fr om melts in closed silver tubes. The crystal structure was investigate d by X ray techniques. Na3Cd2IrO6 crystallizes with monoclinic symmetr y, space group C-2h(3)-C2/m; a = 5.663(2), b = 9.783(3), c = 5.689(2) Angstrom. beta = 109.95(2)degrees, Z = 2. It is isotypic to M(5)(+)A(7 +)O(6) (M = Li, Na; A = Re, Os) and shows relations to the sodium chlo ride structure in spite of an ordered distribution of Na+, Cd2+ and Or (5+).
