Abstract
Polygala klotzschii is a toxic plant growing in Brazil. From the metha
nolic extract of its leaves, two triterpene glycosides could be isolat
ed. Their structures have been determined by spectroscopic means as we
ll as through degradation reactions and by preparing the alditolacetat
es. The glycosides were identified as opyranosyl]-3-O-beta-D-glucopyra
nosyl-medicagenate (1) and beta-D-xylopyranosyl]-3-O-beta-D-glucopyran
osyl-16 alpha-hydroxymedicagenate (2) respectively.
