Abstract
Molecular dipole moments and dipole moments of interaction of seven me thyl derivatives of 4-nitropyridine N-oxides were determined in benzen e solution. Polar and spectroscopic (C-13 NMR and UV/Vis) manifestatio ns of intramolecular interaction indicate that the methyl groups modif y the electronic interaction between the NO and NO2 groups mainly thro ugh steric strain.
