3RD SECTOR AND CIVIL-SOCIETY

Formation of non-profit, non-governmental sector of civil society is a n important factor of political transformation and modernization of th e Slovak Republic. Recent proposal of Law on foundations, elaborated b y the Ministry of Justice of the SR represents an effort of the state administration to define legal position of foundations as collective a ctors. The proposal roused a campaign of civic initiatives and foundat ions, called Third sector SOS for stopping preparation of the Law and making the proposal a subject of public discussion. The transcription of the round table discussion organised by Editors of Sociologia prese nts the ideas of sociologists, philosophers, politologists, historians and lawyers concerning the role of non-governmental sector in develop ment of civil society in Slovakia. The discussion resulted in proposal s of themes for interdisciplinary research on non-government organizat ions mainly in the period after passing the Law on foundations in Nati onal Council.
