Abstract
Church-based health promotion (CBHP) is a large-scale effort by the ch urch community to Improve the health of its members through education, screening, referral, treatment, and group support. The purpose of thi s paper is to characterize published CBHP programs; Information will b e included about types of papers being published, history and growth o f church involvement in health promotion, elements of program attracti veness and success, barriers to program implementation, problems encou ntered during implementation, and implications for practice. It is hop ed that this literature review will serve as a catalyst for future stu dies related to church-based health promotion.
