Abstract
Cryptosporidium parvum is emerging as an important and problematic cau se of diarrhea throughout the world. The lack of effective treatment o r prophylaxis make the study of this organism a high priority. This re view outlines the most recent developments in the understanding of cry ptosporidiosis, especially with regard to pathogenesis, the immune res ponse to infection, and the contribution of host factors to the sympto ms of the disease. New paradigms of drinking water treatment and impro ved understanding of the immunopathogenesis of cryptosporidiosis are k ey to the control of this important emerging protozoal disease.
