The E.M.F. of a galvanic cell with the zirconia solid electrolyte was
measured to determine the activities of gallium at 1000-1200 K in the
entire composition range of liquid Oa-Sn alloys, and some thermodynami
c functions were derived from the results. The fell used was as follow
s: (-)W\Ga, Ga2O3\ZrO2(+ Y2O3)\Ga-Sn(I), Ga2O3/W(+). The activities of
gallium in liquid Ga-Sn alloys at 1000 and 1200 K showed moderately p
ositive deviations from Raoult's law in the whole composition range. T
he results were used to obtain the tin activity, the activity coeffici
ent of gallium at infinitely dilute solution of tin, and the concentra
tion fluctuation in long wavelength limit in the liquid alloys.
