Abstract
Methyl 5',5',5'-trifluorojasmonate was synthesized as an antimetabolic analogue of methyl jasmonate. It induced potato tuber formation more effectively than methyl jasmonate and inhibited the growth of rice see dlings and the germination of lettuce and radish seeds. These results suggest that epijasmonic acid itself has potato tuber-inducing activit y and that the hydroxyl group of tuberonic acid is not necessary for t his activity.
