Abstract
Phytochemical investigation of the outer root bark of Salacia reticula ta var. beta-diandra (Celastraceae) has resulted in the isolation of t wo novel quinonemethide triterpenoids (celastroloids), isoiguesterinol and 30-hydroxypristimerin, along with salacenonal, several known cela stroloids and friedo-oleanane triterpenoids. Details of the structural elucidation and H-1 and C-13 NMR spectral assignments of these compou nds are presented and their biogenetic significance is discussed.
