Pj. Snyder et Lj. Harris, WHERE IN THE WORLD AM I - SEX AND HANDEDNESS DIFFERENCES IN KNOWLEDGEOF GEOGRAPHY, Perceptual and motor skills, 82(3), 1996, pp. 1379-1385
218 college students (96 men and 122 women, including nearly equal num
bers of right-handers and left-handers) were administered a modified v
ersion of the ''Gallup Geography Test.'' Men outperformed women, and l
eft-handed women outperformed right-handed women. We suggest that thes
e results cannot be easily explained by any credible sociocultural mod
el but are consistent with a neuropsychological model of sex and hande
dness differences in spatial ability advanced by Harshman, Hampson, an
d Berenbaum in 1983.
