Abstract
The environmental beneficial/detrimental contribution of antioxidants and photo-antioxidants commercially used in polymer stabilization is d iscussed using data on biological effects of structurally-related phen olic and aminic compounds, antioxidants used in stabilization of food for human nutrition or as pharmacologically active compounds. Detrimen tal effects of the current commercial free radical scavengers for poly mers may arise only after accidental oral intake. Adverse health effec ts from indirect contact with antioxidant-doped polymers are negligibl e. (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Limited.
