Two-way parabolic equation (PE) techniques are used to compute the rad
ar cross-section of two-dimensional objects. A finite-difference imple
mentation of a wide angle PE in combination with non-local boundary co
nditions allows fast execution times on a desktop computer. The techni
que is applied to scattering by a cylinder and by an idealised. aircra
ft shape. Numerical results are in good agreement with calculations us
ing other methods.
