Abstract
Analytical solutions are derived for two wind field. The wind fields d escribe the meridional circulation of a compressible fluid and respect ively differ in symmetry about the equator. The wind fields are derive d with several approximations. The approximations include a linearizat ion of atmospheric radiation and momentum dissipation. Further approxi mations are made by assuming quasi-geostrophic flow and by removing th e latitudinal variation in the coriolis parameter. The derived wind fi elds can be useful in studies of meridional transport because their ap plication requires only basic atmospheric properties. The solutions ar e then applicable when observations are insufficient for detailed simu lations of the meridional circulation. Additionally, the wind fields c an be used to comprehensively determine the effects from meridional tr ansport because they include adjustable wind speeds so they can be use d to comprehensively determine the effects of meridional transport.
