Fi. Ataullakhanov et al., REVERSIBLE BINDING OF ANTHRACYCLINE ANTIBIOTICS TO ERYTHROCYTES TREATED WITH GLUTARALDEHYDE, Biotechnology and applied biochemistry, 24, 1996, pp. 241-244
Human erythrocytes treated with glutaraldehyde can take up anthracycli
ne antibiotics (daunorubicin and doxorubicin) from the incubation medi
um and do so faster than untreated cells. The antibiotics are readily
released when the suspending medium is replaced with an antibiotic-fre
e one. Our findings provide evidence that glutaraldehyde-treated eryth
rocytes remain capable of reversible binding of anthracycline antibiot
ics.
