A study of photophysics and photochemistry of 1-pheny-2-pyrrolidinone
(PPd) in different solvents and temperatures using, photoluminescence
spectroscopy is reported here. The shift of absorption peak and dramat
ic decrease in the fluorescence yield of PPd in ethanol (EtOH) with re
spect to methylcyclohexane (MCH) establish the hydrogen bonding with p
rotic solvent. At very high concentration. PPd in excited state takes
part in a reversible photo-reaction and produces multi-component fluor
escent species.
