In this paper the statistical theory of texture controlled grain growt
h (GG) by Abbruzzese and Lucke will be reviewed. The effect of texture
on GG is discussed for the special case of only two textural componen
ts which is frequently observed experimentally. It is shown by numeric
ally solving the continuity equation that the evolution of texture (e.
g. complete change of texture) of polycrystalline materials is determ
ined by GG once that primary recrystallization has ended and, on the o
ther hand, that the GG behaviour (e. g. secondary recrystallization) i
s vastly influenced by the texture of the material. This interaction b
etween texture and grain size evolution is investigated and discussed
on the basis of the statistical theory of GG. The predicted effects ar
e compared with an experimental observation of GG in ferritic, stainle
ss steel Fe-17 %Cr.
