Excitation cross sections and rate coefficients by electron impact wer
e calculated for the 1s(2)2s-1s2s2p, 1s(2)2s-1s2s(2) and 1s(2)2s-1s2p(
2) transitions of the Li-like ions (CIV, N V, O VI, Ne VIII, Mg X, Al
XI, Si XII, S XIV, Ar XVI, Ca XVIII, Ti XX, Fe XXIV, Ni XXVI, Zn XXVII
I, Ge XXX, Se XXXII, Kr XXXIIV and Mo XXXX) in the Coulomb-Born approx
imation with exchange including relativistic effects and configuration
interaction. Level energies, mixing coefficients and transition wavel
engths and probabilities were also computed. Calculations performed by
the 1/Z perturbation theory and Coulomb-Born approximation are compar
ed with the R-matrix method and the distorted-wave approximation were
Z is the nuclear charge. Formulae obtained for the angular factors of
n-electron atomic system allow one to generalize this method to an arb
itrary system of highly charged ions.
