The paper refers to high-current (0.1-1 A), low-energy (keV-tenths of
keV) electron beams. Beam envelope evolution in an axisymmetric channe
l is numerically modeled acid the influence of channel geometry and be
am parameters-intensity, energy, emittance, object-cross-over position
and radius-is investigated. Two applications are considered: (a) Desi
gning of a matching section between the electron source and the accele
rator structure in low-energy accelerators (b) Electron beam processin
g of materials: an estimation of the power density around image cross-
over is given and the variation of the image cross-over position as re
lated to the target plane is discussed.
