CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF EUROPEAN BOURLETIELLIDAE (COLLEMBOLA, SYMPHYPLEONA) .3. DESCRIPTION OF SOME SPECIES OF HETEROSMINTHURUS AND DEUTEROSMINTHURUS
P. Nayrolles, CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF EUROPEAN BOURLETIELLIDAE (COLLEMBOLA, SYMPHYPLEONA) .3. DESCRIPTION OF SOME SPECIES OF HETEROSMINTHURUS AND DEUTEROSMINTHURUS, Revue Suisse de Zoologie, 103(2), 1996, pp. 525-551
According to our standard of the appendicular chaetotaxy, the followin
g species are redescribed: Heterosminthurus bilineatus (Bourlet, 1842)
, H. claviger (Gisin, 1958), H. insignis (Reuter, 1876), Deuterosminth
urus bicinctus (Koch, 1840), D. flavus (Gisin, 1946), D. pallipes (Bou
rlet, 1843), and D. sulphureus (Koch, 1840). Two new species are descr
ibed: Deuterosminthurus maculatus sp. n. and Deuterosminthurus pleurac
anthus sp. n. A discussion is given on the morphology of the claw, whi
ch is used to distinguish genera in the family Bourletiellidae. Append
icular chaetotaxic characters are relevant for defining genera, but mo
re difficulty applicable for species distinctions. On the basis of suc
h characters, apomorphies of Heterosminthurus and Deuterosminthurus ar
e emphasized. Setae of body and color pattern are also used for specie
s diagnoses, and a key to European species of Deuterosminthurus is pro
vided.
