Abstract
Results of the assessment of the capability of the AVHRR to detect for est fires are reported, for observation of the Irkutsk district. Compa rison of remote sensing and aerial fire-fighting data shows that it is in principle possible to detect fire flash points with a minimum area of 0.2-0.5 ha.
