This article is a summary of a conference organized by the World Affai
rs Council of Philadelphia on the topic of genetic research. The confe
rence considered ramifications of applications of the research, includ
ing health-related decision making, discrimination against people with
particular genetic makeups, and patents. Religious, ethical, and busi
ness viewpoints were discussed.
