HYPERTHYROIDISM ASSOCIATED WITH PULMONARY-HYPERTENSION

The association of pulmonary hypertension and polyendocrinopathies or connective tissue diseases has been reported by several authors. The c auses of this form of pulmonary hypertension are not clear but an auto immune process has often been proposed. The authors report a case of n on-autoimmune hyperthyroidism and reversible pulmonary hypertension af ter total thyroidectomy and normalisation of thyroid function. This ca se supports the hypothesis of a non-autoimmune aetiology of some cause s of pulmonary hypertension in diseases of the thyroid.
