Abstract
The surface structures of Mo(110) induced by oxygen adsorption were ex amined by reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED). Three k inds of one-dimensional surface structures induced by oxygen were disc overed at a high oxygen coverage region. Two of the one-dimensional st ructures showed their periodicity along the Mo[001] orientation and th eir periods were 2 times and 6 times as long as that of the Mo atomic row perpendicular to the Mo[001] orientation. The other one-dimensiona l surface structure showed its periodicity along two equivalent direct ions (Mo[<(1)over bar 13>] and Mo[1(1) over bar3$]). The period of thi s structure along the Mo[<(1)over bar 13>] orientation was 11 times as long as the separation of the Mo(<(2)over bar 26>) planes.
