Av. Avetisyan, STIMULATING EFFECT OF SODIUM-IONS ON GROWTH OF ESCHERICHIA-COLI IN THE PRESENCE OF A PROTONOPHOROUS UNCOUPLER, Biochemistry, 61(3), 1996, pp. 411-413
Increasing the Na+ concentration from sub-millimolar levels to 50 mM s
timulated the growth of Escherichia coli cells in the presence of the
protonophorous uncoupler carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone. The
half-maximal effect was observed at 1 mM Na+. Decreasing inorganic ph
osphate concentration from tens of millimoles to 0.5 mM lowered cell g
rowth under these conditions.
