Abstract
A new family of semiconducting compounds of the formula Zn(1-x)Mn(x)ln (2)S(4) with 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.40 is i ntroduced. A middle infrared study of Zn(1-x)Mn(x)ln(2)S(4) (x = 0.0, 0.3 and 0.4) suggests that the Mn ion is replacing Zn on tetrahedral s ites in cation layers near the S...S interlayer.
