Different modes of the electrochemical synthesis of polyaniline are sh
own to be possible on the aluminum surface in sulfuric-acid electrolyt
es containing catalytic amounts of hexachloroiridic acid and its salts
. The effects of various techniques employed for introducing the catal
ytic additives in the electrochemical synthesis and the anodic oxidati
on of the aluminum electrodes are studied. The catalyst presumably ent
ers the composition of the surface oxide film enhancing its conductanc
e and promoting better monomer adsorption at the electrode surface by
complexing with the aniline molecule.
