Abstract
The growth rates and boundaries of the instability of external kink mo des caused by the resistivity of the conducting wall in tokamaks are c alculated numerically by using the one-dimensional model developed in [6]. The nonlocal interaction between the fundamental poloidal harmoni c of the perturbation and singular satellite harmonics is shown to be the principal reason for the onset of this instability. Agreement betw een the threshold for this instability and the Troyon threshold is dis cussed.
