The 336th Euromech Colloquium, on flows dominated by centrifugal and C
oriolis forces, was held in Trondheim from 21 to 23 June 1995 with the
author acting as chairman. An objective of the colloquium was to disp
lay the similarities and differences between flow phenomena induced by
streamline curvature and system rotation. The forty-eight papers whic
h were presented covered a wide range of flow problems with emphasis o
n geophysical as well as engineering applications. The purpose of this
survey is to give an overview of the major topics addressed at the Co
lloquium, anticipating that these reflect current trends in research o
n flows exposed to centrifugal and/or Coriolis forces.
