Abstract
The increase in research on adolescence is considered with attention t o its transitional aspects during the adolescent period and as a bridg e between childhood and adulthood. In addition, the new effort to exam ine interactional processes between parent and child and between envir onment and genes is discussed with respect to the articles in this spe cial issue.
