Nc. Simpson et Ss. Erenguc, MULTIPLE-STAGE PRODUCTION PLANNING RESEARCH - HISTORY AND OPPORTUNITIES, International journal of operations & production management, 16(6), 1996, pp. 25
Surveys multiple-stage production planning literature to reveal that t
his sizeable body of research is largely inspired by single-item produ
ction planning. Suggests several promising research opportunities, inc
luding the possible development of scheduling techniques not derived f
rom older, single-item procedures. Highlights the need for further com
parative testing between existing ''improved'' techniques, as well as
the wealth of work yet to be done in multiple-stage production plannin
g with limited resources and possible extensions to supply-chain manag
ement.
