Winter activity of a guild of lizards in The Cape region (Baja Califor
nia Sur peninsula, Mexico) was studied during October-March 1993. Adul
ts of Uta stansburiana, Urosaurus nigricaudus and Cnemidophorus hypery
thrus and juveniles of Callisaurus draconoides maintained some activit
y during the entire period although with low numbers of individuals. O
ver 70% of observations corresponded to adult individuals. The warm wi
nter of the area and small body size may favour the lack of total hibe
rnation in these species. (C) 1996 Academic Press Limited
