Raman measurements are carried out for LiF cluster-based nanofilms. Mu
lti-order Raman scattering and surface modes are observed. Abundant Ra
man peaks and conspicuous Raman bands which are composed of several pe
aks are identified, and are discussed in terms of macroscopic and micr
oscopic theories that have been used to describe the lattice dynamics
of small crystals. Good agreement is achieved between the observed spe
ctral peaks and the calculated results. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Sc
