Polycrystalline AgI-intercalated Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oz is prepared and the str
ucture and physical properties studied. The lattice parameters a and c
are determined to be 5.40 and 22.8 Angstrom, respectively. The expans
ion of the lattice parameter c is 7.4 Angstrom, compared with that of
a Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oz (Bi2212) specimen (c/2: 15.4 Angstrom). This expansion
is more than twice as large as that of iodine-intercalation (3.6 Angs
trom). The EPMA measurement shows that the I/Ag ratio in the AgI-inter
calated specimen is greater than 1.0. The T-c is 69 K, which is lower
than that of Bi2212 (75 K) and almost the same as that of IBi2Sr2CaCu2
Oz (IBi2212, 67 K). The effect of AgI-intercalation on the superconduc
tivity is discussed.
