Abstract
Various forms of recently appeared concepts of structure system redund ancy are studied. A new measure for existing structure redundancy is p roposed. By introducing the concept of structure system failure at the mechanism level and the concept of equivalent reliability index, the evaluation of safety criteria for existing offshore structures is deve loped. By employing the method presented in this paper, system redunda ncy has been evaluated for some numerical examples and satisfactory re sults have been drawn.
