Abstract
The new cetrarioid genus, Kaernefeltia Thell & Goward is described to accommodate Cetraria californica and C. merrillii, both of which are c haracterized by small, broadly clavate asci, slightly capitate paraphy ses, disc-bar-shaped pycnoconidia and several distinctive fatty acids.
