Abstract
Amineptine hydrochloride per se produced con tractions of guinea-pig i leum (ED(50) = 1.54 x 10(-7) M), reinforced the effects of acetylcholi ne in guinea-pig ileum, and acted as a competitive antagonist of hista mine on H-1 receptors with a pA(2) value of 5.44. At low doses (10(-6) and 3 x 10(-6) M) it strengthened the relaxation effect of histamine on isolated rat uterus, although it antagonised its effect at higher c oncentrations. Amineptine hydrochloride is a non-competitive antagonis t of serotonin isolated rat uterus, with an IC50 = 8.49 x 10(-8) M, an d did not block the response of isolated rat vas deferens to noradrena line.
