Uncatalyzed ethanol and methanol pulping of sugar cane bagasse was con
ducted and the effects of liquor-to-bagasse ratio, alcohol concentrati
on, cooking temperature and cooking time were studied. It was found th
at, by optimising the process conditions, pulp with high yield could b
e obtained, Also, ii. was found that the washing procedure plays an im
portant role for the lignin content of the pulp. Alkali addition to et
hanol pulping had a significant effect in increasing selectivity at lo
wer cooking temperature.
