A. Cochaux et al., FUNDAMENTAL-STUDY ON PULP AND PAPER TEARI NG STRENGTH .3. INFLUENCE OF CHEMICAL AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS, Cellulose Chemistry and Technology, 29(5), 1995, pp. 631-642
The tear index depends not only on fibre morphology (length, weak poin
t cell, thickness) but also on other chemical or physico-chemical para
meters. There is no direct relation between <(DPv)over bar>, and;the t
ear index in a reasonable <(DPv)over bar> range. Owing to the hydropho
bic nature of the lignin, the tear index is influenced hy the amount o
f lignin. It is also essentially determined by the hydration and the t
ransformation of weak points into dislocation areas.
