Abstract
Acid catalysed ''3+1'' condensation of 1,6-cycloheptatrienedicarboxald ehyde with a tripyrrane dicarboxylic acid, followed by neutralization with triethylamine and oxidation with DDQ, afforded the cycloheptatrie nyl porphyrin analog ''tropiporphyrin'' in good yields; this system fa vors porphyrin-like 18 pi delocalization pathways for both the free ba se and the related monocation.
