L. Savon et al., A NOTE ON THE DIGESTIVE AND METABOLIC NITROGEN-UTILIZATION IN GROWINGPIGS FED HOMEMADE PROTEIN MOLASSES (HPM), Cuban journal of agricultural science, 29(3), 1995, pp. 317-320
Fifteen hybrid male pigs with a live weight of 45 kg were housed in me
tabolism cages and distributed according to a random block design to a
nalyse the digestive and metabolic nitrogen utilization. The treatment
s consisted of 1) control molasses B + commercial concentrate which su
pplied 256 g/day of protein, 2) 50% substitution of concentrate protei
n by homemade protein molasses (HPM) and 3) 75% substitution of concen
trate protein by homemade protein molasses. The coefficients of digest
ive nitrogen utilization (%) were: 1)85.5, 2) 81.0 and 3) 75.4. The ni
trogen retained as percentage of consumption in the treatment of 75% s
ubstitution differed (P < 0.01) from the rest. It is suggested that it
is possible to increase the utilization efficiency of the digestive n
itrogen in growing pigs consuming low levels of utilized protein as th
ose contributed by HPM.
